Medication is only a part of the programme for children with ADHD. Getting support for you as a parent through a support group, books, with teaching staff and carers are all part of making life easier for the family and child with ADHD. Other specialists include Occupational Therapists, Clinical Psychologists, Behavioural Management therapists and Educational Psychologists.

The information on this site is only a guide to the medications available in Ireland for children with ADHD/ADD. Please consult your doctor for further details on medication for the condition as there is no quick fix for ADHD/ADD and what suits some children and works well for them may not suit yours. Medication is not automatically prescribed to all children with ADHD/ADD. On the first consultation, your child may need to have a blood test and an EEG brain scan, again not always, but this helps to eliminate the possibility of any other condition. As a tip, we recommend you make a list if you have any worries/concerns about medication or behavioural management and discuss them at the time of your consultation with the medical team. Other therapies used by some of our members include the inclusion of Fish Oils (again discuss with your doctor) and the reduction of sugar intake.

Early diagnosis of ADHD is very important. If you think your child has ADHD you should first contact your GP to discuss your concerns and seek a referral. Follow this link for some of the services we are aware of who have experience in diagnosing ADHD in the Dublin area.  We hope to expand on this information nationwide, so if you would like your centre listed email us at info@hadd.ie
