Dear Parent,
My name is Ruth McIntyre and I am doing research for a graduate degree in Psychology in University College Dublin under the direction of Dr Eilis Hennessy. The focus of this research will be the experiences of children (boys, between the ages of 7 and 12 years) who have been diagnosed with ADHD. As the personal perspectives of children with ADHD have rarely been explored this research will make a unique contribution to our understanding of the condition. The main part of the research will involve interviewing children with ADHD in a way that is child-friendly to give them every opportunity to express themselves. Another part of the research will concentrate on the views of parents and teachers to find out what they believe are the challenges that are faced at home and in school by children with ADHD.
